I’m a Tokyo transplant and although I can find great Ramen and amazing Sushi in this town, I just don’t know where to go for a proper Japanese breakfast?

Moriyuki, fret no more – I’ve got just the place for you, and it might be one of the best kept secrets of the NYC Japanese dining scene (which as you mentioned, is vast).
Okonomi, located in Williamsburg offers a very traditional and outrageously delicious Ichiju Sansai set meal for breakfast and lunch. As you likely know (but some of my other readers might not), Ichiju Sansai consists of a rice bowl, miso soup, a piece of cooked fish, and three small sides.
From my Japanese friends who have eaten there they assure me that this is a very typical Japanese meal and that the version at Okonomi is not only faithful but also freaking delicious. At $12 dollars for the set it might also be one of the best breakfast deals in town.
In the evening Okonomi transforms into Yuji Ramen. If you’re already in the neighborhood you might as well come back for that because Chef Yuji Haraguchi delivers some of the most inventive and delicious mazemen Ramen in town.
Hope this helps and Enjoy!
